What Are The Differences Between Model Y L And Model Y?
At 8 a.m. on August 19, Tesla officially launched the Model Y L in China, with a starting price of 339,000 yuan. Deliveries are expected to begin in September. This new version has quickly attracted attention due to its upgrades over the standard Model Y. Let's take a closer look at the key differences.

Larger Dimensions
The most noticeable change is in size. The wheelbase of the Model Y L has been stretched to 3040 mm, and the body dimensions now stand at 4976/1920/1668 mm. This places the car in the mid-to-large SUV category.
Compared with the standard Model Y, the length has increased by 179 mm, and the wheelbase has grown by 150 mm—making it even longer than the Model X. In addition, the height has been raised by 44 mm to improve headroom for the third row of seats, giving the Model Y L a more balanced and commanding presence on the road.
Improved Aerodynamics
Tesla has also optimized aerodynamics. The Model Y L features a redesigned rear wing, updated rear fenders, and new low-drag wheel covers. Thanks to these changes, the drag coefficient has been reduced to just 0.216 Cd, further enhancing efficiency and stability.

Extended Driving Range
The Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The front motor delivers 142 kW, while the rear motor produces 198 kW, giving a combined output of 340 kW. Paired with an 82 kWh LG ternary lithium battery pack, the Model Y L achieves a CLTC range of 751 km—the longest in the history of the Model Y series.
Refined Exterior Design
On the outside, the Model Y L maintains the familiar sloping fastback profile but introduces significant updates. The rear section has been extended, the window area enlarged, and the waistline slightly raised. These changes make the overall silhouette smoother and more harmonious. A new “YYY” badge at the rear emphasizes its “extended” identity.

Upgraded Interior Layout
Inside, the Model Y L adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. All versions come with seat heating as standard, and the first and second rows also feature ventilation. The front seats have been upgraded with improved styling, greater comfort, and new electric leg rests.

The second row consists of independent seats, each with ventilation, heating, electric adjustment, and liftable armrests. A central aisle between the seats makes it easier for passengers to access the third row. Both the second and third rows can be folded electrically and independently, allowing for flexible combinations. With all seats folded, the car offers a maximum storage capacity of 2539 liters, making it highly practical for families.
Enhanced Safety
In terms of safety, the Model Y L uses a cage-type body structure with extensive high-strength steel for better crash protection. Airbags are standard, and both the second and third rows are equipped with i-Size standard child safety seat interfaces, ensuring greater protection for passengers of all ages.

Conclusion
The Tesla Model Y L is not just a stretched version of the standard Model Y. With its larger dimensions, improved aerodynamics, extended 751 km range, refined exterior, and upgraded six-seat interior, it represents one of the most significant updates in the Model Y lineup.
Currently, the Model Y L is only available in the Chinese market, and whether it will launch in other countries has not yet been confirmed.
However, for global Tesla owners who admire the new look, there’s good news: our factory has already developed the l style model y rear tail wing spoiler as the one equipped on the Model Y L. So even if you cannot buy the Model Y L itself, you can still upgrade your standard Model Y with the exact same spoiler design and enjoy the sporty appearance it brings.
